“This was one of my favorite demos at the show. It sounded so well balanced, it seemed to deliver everything in the right proportions. Bold but not in-your-face; tonally ripe but not too warm; detailed but not stringent; effortless but weighty, and so on […] The system produced a holographic, densely populated landscape of images that were physical, tangible, and stood colorfully out in space in their own air cubicles. It also all sounded so unmechanical, and, again, well-balanced”

This system produced some of the most sophisticated and compelling sound at the show. It had gorgeous tone, grand scale, and waves of fine detail. It also had tonal purity, musical grace, and an atmospheric, harmonic fullness. This sound was easy to sink into and hard to break out of.

"I could live with a system like this," I thought, as I sat beguiled by what I was hearing and seeing in the room co-hosted by Luna Cables, Thöress, AudioNec, The Wand, and Wattson Audio. At that moment I wasn’t thinking only of the system’s sound quality but also of the artisanal, passionate, old-values aesthetic these companies represent. Certainly those components—those values—were making beautiful music together, music with touch, tactility, air, pure tone, expressive delicacy, vocal purity, solid bass, transparency, and informational fullness.”

Of course, if you’ve never heard a system with absolute temporal coherence, chances are you won’t recognize one that lacks it. But if you have, you know that most systems simply don’t have it. And if you need a lesson, just pop round to the Luna Cables room and allow the NS-1000’s to do their revealing thing. Last year my jaw dropped when I listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Tin Pan Alley” on the Yamaha/Luna system. It taught me lessons about my own system. This year, they too used a vinyl source, and a (small) stack of audiophile-approved LPs, so all I got to listen to was stuff that wasn’t nearly so challenging. But it was still most convincing. Luna Cables are right up there with the very best.”
